Comprising portions of the Indian and Pacific Oceans as well as the seas surrounding Indonesia, the Asia/Pacific (or what we call the Indo-Pacific) region boasts warm, turquoise waters, picturesque islands, and diverse underwater communities. This tropical paradise is a dream for scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, fishing, and other ocean-related adventures. Like most coral reefs around the world, the reefs of Hawaii, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and Raja Ampat, Indonesia, are threatened by the effects of global climate change and other human-induced stressors. Because each of CORAL’s field sites in the Indo-Pacific has a distinct mixture of cultures and priorities, the solutions to conservation challenges must be carefully tailored to each location. CORAL's wealth of experience facilitating collaboration between government officials, marine tourism providers, and local residents has allowed us to make measureable progress toward our conservation program goals.
