CORAL Conservation Programs Director, Rick MacPherson, presented the facts at the 10th Annual Sustainable Tourism Conference on the Turks and Caicos.
"Caribbean reefs have suffered an 80% decline in cover during the past three decades, while 80% to 90% of elkhorn and staghorn coral is gone," MacPherson said in his presentation, adding that dive tourism would be hardest hit and could face revenue losses of up to US$300 million.
