Led by a passionate team and guided by a committed board, CORAL partners with local community members, government leaders, marine recreation providers, and other organizations in coral reef destinations to protect 1 percent of our planet for future generations. Following our well-respected and successful Coral Reef Sustainable Destination (CRSD [9]) approach to conservation, we engage on the local level to make international impacts.
Coral reefs are located in more than 100 countries around the world and countless communities rely on them for income, food, and coastal protection. This makes the protection of coral reefs an important matter for policy makers and governments, especially ministries of tourism, environment, and fisheries. Our Issue Briefs provide an overview of each ecological and economic impact, as well as policy options for global, national, and local action to help protect this important resource.
CORAL's staff and field representatives [11] have extensive knowledge about coral reefs, the factors threatening their health, and all phases of CORAL's work in communities around the world. To talk to one of our experts, please contact Julie Bennett, communications manager, by email [12] or phone at 415-834-0900 (ext. 319).
CORAL builds grassroots partnerships with local communities, government leaders, marine recreation providers, and organizations to protect coral reefs from climate change and other human-induced stresses around the world. We welcome all inquiries from the media about our conservation programs.
Our About Coral Reefs section includes basic Information about coral reefs: what they are, how they grow, the myriad benefits they provide to our planet, and current threats to their health.
