Stanford marine science professor Steve Palumbi previewed his Microdocs Web site to the CORAL board and staff recently. The new site presents very short (2- to 4-minute) video documentaries focusing on coral reefs. This “short attention-span science theater” helps illustrate what happens when ecosystems are out of balance.

NOAA 2008 Reef Report
New NOAA Report on Reef Health

The report released in July from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration confirms that almost half of the coral reefs in U.S. territory are in poor or fair condition and have declined due to natural and human threats. To protect reefs, CORAL promotes resiliency—a proven method of combating large-scale threats from rising sea temperatures and land-based pollution.

San Francisco, CA - September 23, 2008 - The Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) has taken its environmentally sustainable tour guide training program worldwide. The CORAL Reef Leadership Network—a program designed to teach local tour operators and marine park managers how to train others in sustainable marine recreation practices—launched in Mexico and Hawaii this summer and will launch in Belize and Fiji this fall.
